Heavy Burden Matt Kemp is a superstar, and arguably the best player in baseball, but unless the Dodgers get some help before the trade deadline, they are not going to make the playoffs. He just has to do too much for the team. In last nights game, he makes an amazing throw to gun down Ryan Howard at the plate, preserving the 2-1 Dodgers lead. But his team’s pitching blows it and they lose 3-2 to the Phils. There are rumors that the Dodgers may go after Ryan Dempster or Shane Victorino, for Kemp’s case, lets hope these moves actually happen.

PLAY OF THE DAY Asleep at the mound? Kenley Johnson makes a vital mistake by forgetting to call timeout and turning his back on the runner as Everth Cabrera was able to micarously steal home to tie up the game in the 9th. Meanwhile, on the bad throw to home, Will Venable makes the heads up play and is able to come in for the go ahead run. This heads up base running by the San Diego Padres has earned the spot for play of the day.
I couldn’t even imagine what the feeling would be like as a Dodger fan in that stadium…that’s one long ride home.

Cuban Fever The Los Angeles Dodgers and Cuban outfielder Yasiel Puig have reached a deal that will make the 21-year-old outfielder the highest paid Cuban defector in all of baseball with a deal that is said to be worth $42 Million dollars over 7 years. Puig batted .330 with 17 home runs, 47 RBIs and 78 runs scored in 327 at-bats with the Cienfuegos Elefantes in the 2010-11 Cuban National Series. Later, he averaged .370 in 46 at-bats in the playoffs, at barely 20 years of age. He will be major factor in the Dodgers push towards a division championship and the organization hopes he will be a major contributor for their playoff run and could be an X-factor to this teams championship run.
Pujols Power Albert Pujols leads the Anaheim Angels over the NL-leading Los Angeles Dodgers in the Freeway Series with his game winning RBI Single in the 9th inning. Mike Trout also came up big for the Angles with 2 RBI’s and a Home Run (6).
Ethier Extended Andre Ethier, the Los Angeles Dodgers star right fielder has agreed in principle to a 5 year, $85 Million dollar extension with the team. The contract also has a $17.5 Million dollar team option for the 2018 season which could potentially bring this deal as high as 100-million dollars. Ethier, who has been an All-Star the past 2 seasons, wisely avoided arbitration last year by signing a one-year deal with the team which is now paying off and hopefully the man can continue to live up to all the hype and all the money.
