Derby Preview? Prince Fielder’s three run jack was one of the Tigers three home runs that helped lead to their victory over the Royals 7-1. This was Prince’s last game before the home run derby, so he definitely hopes this bomb is the first of many to come for him this week. He won the derby in 2009, but he has tough competition with defending champion Robinson Cano and certifiable mashers such as Jose Bautista and Matt Kemp. These days, I feel like most all-star games are a joke, especially baseball’s that “matters” and determines home field advantage in the World Series. However, the little kid in me still has a soft spot for the individual events of the slam dunk contest and the home run derby, so I’ll definitely be tuning in tonight.

Garza talks after his poor outing It takes a brave pitcher to hold a press conference after a sub-par outing, but thats exactly what Matt Garza did after the Cubs’ 8-4 loss. Garza may not be having his best season, but as a young talented pitcher with a manageable contract, he is sure to have suitors around the trade deadline. Maybe the Yankees or Tigers come calling?
